Interior design for ‘De Rotterdam’

GROUP A, Studio Makkink & Bey and Roukens + Van Gils share the credit for the interior design of the new municipal offices in De Rotterdam, designed by OMA on the Wilhelminapier in Rotterdam. The Municipality of Rotterdam commissioned the interior and began moving into the new offices in phases from August 2014 to the end of the year. The offices occupy 33 floors in the middle of the three towers.

MIT Beaver Works by Merge Architects

This multi-use research and collaboration space was developed for students, faculty, and technical professionals in the Tech Square hub near MIT’s campus in Cambridge. Beaver Works, a joint center for MIT Lincoln Laboratory and MIT School of Engineering, serves as a work space and showcase where students and faculty develop and test ideas for incorporation into the National Defense portfolio. Along with a research lab, the space incorporates a café/lounge area, meeting rooms, and a prototyping shop, where affiliates can carry out design/build research projects.

Greenville involves the renovation and partial restoration of the existing main building of the Houthalen-Helchteren mine site into an incubator for the cleantech industry. The incubator is part of the Cleantech Campus for which a master plan was recently drafted. The Cleantech Campus is in turn part of a redevelopment plan for the centre of Houthalen-Helchteren, which among others comprises the development of parklands, a residential zone and the NAC.

The solution is a clever combination of different areas, so as to accommodate the diverse range of requirements in a limited space while retaining a spacious feel.

Canadian design firm MSDS Studio has fitted out a Toronto warehouse with modular boxes to form offices for e-commerce company Shopify. Toronto-based MSDS Studio was approached by online retail brand Shopify to redesign the interior of its offices in a 100-year-old warehouse. The studio divided the existing space into two volumes representing different areas of trade activity.
